For the Autodesk University Factory Event 2025, we were tasked with designing Autodesk Origin, a multifunctional measuring device that streamlines digital fabrication by capturing precise distances, generating accurate color profiles, and featuring an intuitive interactive UI. Engineered with a laser distance sensor, high-accuracy color sensor, and integrated display, Origin bridges the gap between physical materials and digital creation, allowing designers, engineers, and makers to seamlessly scan environments, capture real-world color data, and relay information into design software. This challenge pushed us to merge precision engineering with human-centered interaction, resulting in a tool that enhances workflow efficiency in architecture, industrial design, and digital manufacturing. Through rapid prototyping and iteration, we developed an experience that feels intuitive, responsive, and essential for professionals looking to create smarter, more connected workflows.
